Adios, Farewell, Ciao, Sayonara, Au Revoir Laura Cuñat!

Collage in boxes, a personal project
One of the joys of running a small design studio is working with interns. I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity of both, mentor and learn from these young curious minds starting their creative journey.
There have been many talented young designers who have walked through Alfalfa Studio’s doors. Some of them are already making their mark in the design world. I’m always thrilled when I see them succeed.
Being a small shop, our interns become like family. Often, I have bittersweet feelings when I see them go. Bitter since they will be missed. We miss their dedication and their unique personalities.—How can we forget the shy ones, the smart ones, the obsessive ones, the clever ones, the methodical ones, the fun ones, the know-it-all ones, the passionate ones, the generous ones, the wild ones, the good-hearted ones, the proud ones, the resourceful ones, the out going ones?— Sweet because I know they have gained something positive. That is, they have acquired new skills that will help them in their future choices. Most of them remain friends.

Brand identity for NoNiPoc, a quality, youth eyewear line
This week we say farewell to Laura Cuñat Minguez, our Summer 2011 designer. Originally from Valencia, Spain, Laura couldn’t have been a better match as she fit perfectly right from the get-go. Unafraid, tenacious and diligent, Laura’s talent, curiosity, and personality would make the entire city of Valencia proud.
Laura’s work history includes freelance in branding and identity, in-house designer for a medical research firm and hands-on experience in the fast-pace world of printing houses. Her practical work experience combined with her background in fine arts makes her approach unique.

Poster design for Lemonday exhibition
Like from many before her, I learned many things from Laura. For once, I realized that Mexican Spanish is very different from Valencian Spanish. That is, we both speak Spanish but sometimes don’t understand each other!
Seriously, it’s rare to find a designer that is both pragmatic and poetic. A creative who completes projects beautifully and on time. One that prefers to put their work first than seeing what their friends are up to in facebook!
In fact, her eye for color and composition along with her dedication and long work hours will soon be seen in a short animation we recently completed. Stay tuned later this week…

Proposed magazine covers
Laura will be missed on Centre Street, and not only because she is NOT naca, kutre, mafufa, pinche, sarras or chafa, but because she is muy padre and guay. Wherever she ends up, they will be lucky to have her.
Buena suerte Laura!
