Description:
Orinoco Online showcases a collection of artifacts from twelve indigenous groups living in Southern Venezuela. A program of the Fundación Cisneros, this website is guided by a commitment to preserve, study and disseminate information about Venezuela and its indigenous populations.
Orinoco Online used emerging information technologies to bridge cultures and increase understanding both within Latin America and between Latin America and the rest of the world. To insure a broad demographic, the site was created in six iterations: Spanish, English or Portuguese and high-bandwidth or low-bandwidth. The site also features a searchable database of over 350 objects and a variety of rich media.
Orinoco Online was built to appeal to academics, such as scholars, museum curators, and students, as well as an audience of more mixed interests in indigenous cultures, sociology, and the arts.
