Crunch, crunch. The leaves that have fallen from the trees now crunch under your feet as you walk. A single leaf portrays the whole cycle of Mother Nature’s seasonal greetings: a loop replay of green to red to brown. A single leaf contains a miraculous structure of fractal patterns that resemble the formation of a galaxy. A single leaf can become a bookmark; a compressed story; a memory. (Hopefully not an itchy one—Leaves of three, let it be, remember?) A single leaf can also become an amazing piece of art.

Lorenzo Manuel Durán Silva is a self-taught Spanish artist. One day, the simple observation of a caterpillar eating a leaf lead him to begin a marvelous series of “cut-plant leaves,” that has reached out to people all over the world. His delicate artwork boasts an intricate sensibility, patience, and the utmost beauty. But most of all, it shows a sincere appreciation for nature. In fact, Lorenzo’s carefully sculptured leaves display nature within nature, in its purest form. In a single leaf that has undergone Lorenzo’s touch, lies a universe of creation, life, and enchantment.
