Located in the heart of Mexico City, Museo Experimental El Eco promotes experimentation, creative freedom and risk-taking. Known as “El Eco,” the museum’s galleries are open to a myriad of styles and processes that foster education, knowledge and dialog. El Eco also produces special projects like Ediciones Eco: Poesía Visual Contemporanea.

Their latest publication brings together 8 pieces inspired by concrete poetry, the artistic movement from the 1950 in which the typographic arrangement of words is as important in conveying the meaning of the piece as the content of the words, rhythms, or rhymes.

Printed in silkscreen, Poesía Visual Contemporanea, walks the fine line between being a museum book or/and an artist’s portfolio. The format is a customized box holding the various visual poems individually printed. One can experience them one by one or as a group. The dimensions of 40 x 40 cm. are based on publications made by editor and concrete poet Hansjörg Mayer in the 1960s. Typographically, Mayer used Futura typeface and printed his books in letterpress.

With Poesía Visual Contemporanea Ediciones Eco aims to publish both, a collectable book as well as an art piece in itself. The participating artists are Augusto de Campos, Natalie Czech, Pedro Friedeberg, Karl Holmqvist, Magali Lara, Clemente Padín, Laureana Toledo y Roberto Turnbull.
