To end Saint Valentine’s week, we present a selection of 14 posters that Alfalfa Studio designed for Amphibian Stage. For the last 13 years, our studio has been creating theater posters for this Fort Worth-based theatre company to represent dramas, comedies and everything in between. Every season, we launch a campaign consisting of approximately 7 posters, to date we have completed almost 100!

In looking through our archives we realized 14 posters have something in common; they feature a heart in different sizes, shapes, and forms. To show you our love and to wrap Valentine’s Day week, we present a special curated selection, just for you.

We’re Gonna Die by Young Jean Lee

This production proposes it’s time to get real and sing along about the one thing we all have in common: we’re gonna die. This existential cabaret boldly explores the rough moments of life with humor, insight, and pop music.

Cyrano by Jason O’Connell and Brenda Withers from Edmond Rostand

Who wins the battle of beauty versus brains? Cyrano is a swordsman, philosopher, poet, and raconteur – everything that the love of his life, Roxane, would want. There’s just one problem: his nose is colossal. Cyrano is ugly and, therefore (he believes) unworthy of her affection. Enter Christian, a tongue-tied, yet handsome, young cadet. Surely together they can win Roxane’s heart.

The Mystery of Irma Vep by Charles Ludlam

This Obie Award-winner gleefully satirizes everything from Hitchcock’s Rebecca and Victorian Melodrama to The Mummy’s Curse. On a “dark and stormy night,” Lady Enid arrives at an estate under the spell of his deceased first wife and haunted by something that’s prowling the moors. She quickly encounters a werewolf, a vampire, an Egyptian princess and the mystery of Irma Vep, whose portrait hangs over the fireplace. With dozens of lightning-fast changes, two actors portray all the characters – men, women and monsters – in a hilarious gender-bending tour-de-farce.

This Is How It Goes by Neil LaBute

Not Medea by Allison Gregory

What if the show you came to see is not the show you need to see? When a working mother escapes to the sanctuary of the theatre and encounters a play she desperately doesn’t want to see, she manipulates the show – and the audience – and leads them reluctantly, undependably, humorously into her own very private story. Through a synthesis of myth, magic, and the real world, Not Medea is a fierce slap-down about love, lust, parenthood, and forgiveness.
