One of the historic La Liga clubs will be celebrating their 100th anniversary. Valencia C. F., one of the most iconic badges in football, redesigned their logo for this celebration. But don’t worry, not much has changed. The design is quite simple.

The bat symbol was always a part of Valencia’s badge design. Since 1919, the unique badge, in an interesting way, has attracted various types of attention. The bat symbol received a lot of praise, various sentiments, and controversy.

Why does Valencia C. F. even have a bat in their logo?

Some say it’s because bats inhabit that area. Another theory is that on October 1238, when King James I was about to re-conquer the city of Valencia, a bat landed on the top of his flag. He interpreted it as a good omen.

That was my quick recap of the logo history, but now to the most important part of this updated badge. The new centenary logo will only be used for the 2018/19 season. It is basically the same except that the colors were changed to black and gold to symbolize of their 100-year existence. The gold color wraps around the badge, forming an outline. The badge is also accompanied with a sans-serif typeface that highlights their history.

Although this is a huge milestone for the club, I’m glad the designer behind this update only made minimal treatments. The badge still looks elegant and I can’t wait to see it on jerseys.
