Milan’s Salone del Mobile, is the largest and most prominent international furniture and design fair. In collaboration with Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and British artist Alexander Groves, the design duo of Studio Swine ( Super Wide Interdisciplinary New Explorers), COS created “New Spring,” an interactive and multi-sensory installation in an abandoned cinema in Milan.

The installation exhibited ‘blossoms’ filled with a mist that bursted and disappeared on contact with skin, but could be held wearing special gloves. The tree-like sculptures were inspired by the ornate chandeliers of Italian palazzos and the architectural features of Milanese columns and arches.

“Inspired by the famous cherry blossom festival in Japan, the installation is designed to create a special moment that brings people together. A fleeting shared experience that evokes a sense of the changing seasons.”
