My girl, FKA Twigs, is back, better than ever. After revealing her intimate struggles with the removal of 6 fibroid tumors, the singer-songwriter and dancer, Twigs, has emerged on the new platform IG TV with “Somebody, somewhere.” This short documentary, directed by FKA Twigs, guides us through her tumultuous journey with sporadic inner dialogue. In her documentary, she reveals a more fragile version of herself, her body bound with gauges and iv tubes. With movement, she releases her pain and suffering, reciting the words, “There is no such thing as perfect.” In a recent post she said:

I am a very private person as u all know and I have gone back and forth in my mind whether to share that this year I have been recovering from laparoscopic surgery … I tried to be brave but it was excruciating at times and to be honest I started to doubt if my body would ever feel the same again. I was so scared, (and) despite lots of love from friends and family I felt really alone and my confidence as a woman was knocked.

This isn’t Twigs’ first encounter with directing videos. Many of her music videos are directed by her and has become the subject of multiple ad campaigns, like Apple’s recent campaign for HomePod and Nike. As a creative and woman, I am proud of her sharing her personal challenges with her fans. Throughout her career, she has repeatedly used her platform to expose social and personal topics that would make most individuals uncomfortable. In my opinion, her creative work empowers women to accept the humanity within themselves.

I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. Be sure to follow her on Instagram to keep up to date with her upcoming projects.

You can watch the documentary below.
