As a graphic designer with a great interest in branding, it is always exciting to see a fun and new branding project.

Recently, there was a surprising re-branding project (or polishing marketing strategy?) for Dunkin’ (Donuts). The project was led by Jones Knowles Ritchie that has their branches in London, New York, Singapore, and Shanghai. I personally like this project because of their interesting strategy for their new name and logo.

The next-generation Dunkin’ concept was rolled out as a test to about 50 stores earlier this year, and on Tuesday, the company announced that it would be changing its name to just Dunkin’ at all of its US stores by January. -Jessica Tyler, Business Insider on Sep 25, 2018

Why do I like about this?

First of all, it is well thought out. As far as I remember, I already called it “Dunkin”, and so did my friends. More importantly, they would be able to extend their brand as one that sells various foods (or possibly some food-related products?) not just donuts by taking out ‘Donuts,’ Although they have already been selling the same foods, the word ‘Donuts’ limited the brand image just to ‘Donuts.’

Secondly, I like the subtlety of their apostrophe, such a charm! It goes along with their strategy that I mentioned above.

Finally, it is thoughtful, conceptual, and just so cute. Irresistible!
