Alfalfa Studio: Why do you do what you do?
Cory Richardson: its fun for me haha
AS: What’s the response to your work been like?
CR: i honestly never really worry about the response i just post whatever i think is funny. never expected to gain any followers in the first place haha
AS: How did you start?
CR: i used to use twitter like a normal person. tweeted really boring stuff about sports and my life. i followed other people i thought were funny and i felt like i could maybe post my own funny shit online. so i started just posting jokes randomly one day and then i didn’t stop. once i started gaining followers on twitter i made an instagram where i would just post my tweets
AS: Where do you get inspiration for your jokes?
CR: lollll i have no idea i just think of random scenarios and try to make them into a joke. usually i’ll just think of something randomly
AS: Why do you think it comes so naturally?
CR: probably because i’m naturally an idiot
AS: Dope. Can you give a brief history of how your Twitter and comics’ following has grown? What were some big moments along the way?
CR: so i started making jokes on twitter with around 400 followers and got to about 5,000 in 2 or 3 months, then i just kept gaining from there. it was pretty consistent. after a year i had over 100k on twitter and then i got suspended right after that, which was a couple months ago
comics i just write for @dustinteractive who’s fucking awesome btw. i write jokes for him (most of the time he uses my twitter jokes) and he draws them
AS: Ooh I’ll get to the comics soon. What are your thoughts on the Twitter suspension?
CR: it sucks lol i don’t even know why i was suspended. i’m confused why it happened and i’m not pissed off but i am annoyed. just kinda sucks because it took a long time to get to 100k and then now it’s just gone for what seems like no reason
AS: You worked hard towards 100k but what makes that achievement meaningful to you?
CR: idk its not really that meaningful but it’s definitely cool that people like my tweets. sometimes i’ll get really nice messages which is really cool, just “hey you made my day” or “i’ve been goin through a rough time and your tweets make me smile”. those kinds of messages are fuckin great
AS: When you went through hard times in the past did you have a similar person you looked to for humorous content?
CR: not really, but i did follow funny accounts for a while and my favorite by far was @dubstep4dads. i was in high school at the time and just ended up following him
AS: What do you outside of comics now, and what’s your plan moving forward with jokes and stuff now that Twitter is gone?
CR: i’m just gonna keep posting on instagram haha
AS: Wanna tell me more about what you do for comics?
CR: yeah if i have an idea that doesn’t really work with words i’ll message dustin and he’ll make a comic out of it. and he also makes comics from my best tweets
Thanks Cory for the interview!
