Active shooter drills have become part of America’s schools routine, every child has been trained to protect themselves and their friends in case of a shooting in their schools. And it feels like we’ve came to terms with that.

McCann New York and March for our Lives have launched a new PSA campaign named Generation Lockdown. The PSA shows a group of employees gathered for an active shooter drill and they are introduced to the expert, Kayleigh, a girl around 9 years old who goes on to and explains them how to act in case of a shooter event.

The video is shocking, but what is most shocking about it is that it’s a reality truth that kids around America live under the threat of active shooters at schools, and that they get prepared and trained to protect themselves. Years ago we could have read this on a SciFi novel and thought we’d never come to that, but it is a reality, a reality that we’ve came used to.

Generation Lockdown is a shout out to reject this reality, to not accept it as part of our lives. Children shouldn’t need to be trained to protect themselves against guns. The campaign is promoting the S.42 Background Check Expansion Act that hopes to prevent dangerous people from having access to guns.
