Finding your dream job can be a tough ordeal, that’s why lettering artist Lauren Hom created her own dream job and makes it look like a breeze!

Lauren Hom aka Hom Sweet Hom is a designer and letterer based in Detroit. She is widely known for her bright color palettes and beautiful type which she ties together with playful and witty copywriting. She has worked with some of the biggest brand and companies including Starbucks, Google, YouTube and TIME Magazine.

The thing that sets Lauren apart from all the other designers is that she is extremely passionate about her work and she is not scared to take risks. She went on to create the job of her dreams as a lettering artist after discovering that her job in advertising wasn’t for her. With her design skills and a knack for marketing, she was able to build a strong career out of her side passion and encourages her followers to do the same.

Out of all her beautiful work, my favorite has to be her Daily Dishonesty Blog where designers submit their own hand-lettered lie! It’s so interesting to see the witty and very relatable things people come up with! My friend Praachi aka Lots of Letters and I collaborated to create our very own submission!

Tbh true love is letting someone eat something that you really wanted to eat ????? This week’s #HOMwork is all about making a valentine that doesn’t look or sound like a regular valentine ? The goal? Not getting lost in the sea of red and pink hearts and saccharine phrases this week. This challenge is an opportunity to get more comfortable with your audience and show people your quirky side ? For some, true love is being able to complete each other's sentences. For others, it's being able to fart in front of each other. No judgements here! ??? (Psst if you want to sign up for #HOMwork and get a thoughtful, creative prompt sent to your inbox every Friday, head over to the link in my profile. Just make sure to check the box that says “Sign me up for HOMwork” ?) . . . . . #type #lettering #handlettering #handtype #goodtype #typespire #typegang #thedailytype #designspiration #thedesigntip #funnyvalentines #letteringchallenge

We’ve all told a friend or loved one who’s struggling, “Let me know if you need anything.” ????? But when we make a general offer of help, it puts the burden on the person who’s already having a hard time, even though we all want to help. You can be a bigger help to your friend by just doing something—even something small. It doesn’t have to be big to mean a lot? . This week’s #HOMwork assignment is #sponsored by @optionb, an organization that helps you build resilience in the face of adversity—and gives you the tools to help your family, friends, and community do the same ?? With the holiday season in full swing, this prompt is in support of the #OptionBThere for the Holidays program that helps us find ways to support friends and family who could use extra love this season? . The assignment? ?? Ask yourself the question, “What’s one action I can take to be there for someone who is going through a difficult time this holiday season?” And then letter or design a piece of artwork based on your answer. . The thing that makes me feel the most supported and cared for when I’m feeling down is someone offering to cook me dinner or share a meal together, and I like to do the same for the people in my life ? I definitely used this as the inspiration for the artwork above because sharing food is a simple, yet meaningful way to show someone that you love them. . ??Tag me @homsweethom, @optionb, and #OptionBThere in your post so we can see all the ways the #HOMwork community will be supporting their loved ones (or each other!) this month ??

Let’s go somewhere, anywhere & everywhere ??? . Here’s the finished mural I painted at Google’s Daydream office in Mountain View during my week-long artist residency. Swipe to see some fun process shots all the way down to the blank wall! ? . Inspired by the work that their VR team is dreaming up, this piece is my visual interpretation of what the future of virtual reality looks like: a little abstract but bright and moving forward nonetheless ? . This mural was painted with the help of many cans of @behrpaint and my wonderful painting assistants @sparkletters and @jennacarando (+ a few strokes from @nicoleyvonne.gram)! If you work at the Mountain View campus, you can find it on the 4th floor of the 1255 Pear Avenue building ???
