Stephen Hillenburg was born in Oklahoma and got raised in Anaheim, California. Ever since he was young, he was always fascinated with the sea and all the animals in it. He went to school and graduated with a degree on marine resources. During school, Hillenburg also showed his artistic side. When he was teaching marine biology, he used his own illustrations and stories. He even created a educational comic book, The Intertidal Zone, which featured “Bob the Sponge.”

Hillenburg designed the show ‘Spongebob Squarepants.’  And after years and years of work the show finally aired on Nickelodeon May 1st, 1991. The tv show combined his two loves, sea creatures and animating. When the show debuted, it became fast one of the funniest shows with humor that children and older viewers liked. The show got exact 251 episodes and it has been turn into books, movies, games, theme park rides and a Broadway musical.

Unfortunately Stephen Hillenburg, who created Nickelodeon’s funniest cartoon series, died the 26th of November 2018 at the age 57. The cause of death was ALS, the disease Hillenburg revealed he was diagnosed with last year.

On behalf of all the fans, we all want to thank Stephen Hillenburg for the smiles and laughs he gave and continues to give to millions of children and adults around the world.
