Every TV show or movie production has an Art Department working in preproduction on concept art that defines the look and feel of the characters, the setting and some of the most important scenes of the productions.
Disney’s latest big production, The Mandalorian, translates the iconic world of the Star Wars movies into live action TV for the first time in more than 30 years. The Mandalorian is Disney’s hook to their new streaming platform, Disney+. Translating the beloved universe of Star Wars into a new TV perspective was a craft to be taken seriously. That’s why the show was heavily based on concept art by artists Christian Alzmann, Nick Gindraux, Ryan Church, Jama Jurabaev, and Doug Chiang.
The creative team used old concept art from the original Star Wars movies as inspiration, to create this new world of greed, vice and bounty hunters. The concept art turned out to be so beautifully crafted that after every episode while the credits roll, producers decided to showcase some of this beautiful art created for the show.
You can check some of these pieces below, and make sure to check The Mandalorian, now streaming at Disney+.
