You might know the pixar movie called Coco. The movie is about the rebellious Miguel, a 12-year-old Mexican boy and hopeful future musician, doesn’t understand that his family has banned all music, especially when his icon and the greatest guitar player to ever live, the deceased Ernesto de la Cruz, is the town’s hero. However, Miguel made a mistake on the Day of the Dead and that caused him to magically transport to the Land of the Dead. Once arrived, Miguel met a skeleton called Hector. He will lead the way through the underworld to help Miguel find a missing ancestor. But the question is if they can make it before sunrise.

At first, the creators from Pixar, worked on something completely different. they worked on a about an American kid who had a Mexican mother and an American father. The boy ended up going down to Mexico for Día de Muertos; it explored a lot of ideas about being Latino but still being a fish out of water in a lot of ways.

After working on it for about a year, they realized they were telling a story that was opposite of what the celebration is about. They were creating a story about a boy wanting to say goodbye to a loved one to let go of his grief and that is not what Día de Muertos is about.
