We are currently living times of uncertainties due to the pandemic that has caused us great fear. Through these times it is best to stay positive and carry out all the indications given by the CDC. Without a doubt, it is impossible to isolate yourself from the news due to the digital era we live in. However, why don’t we use social media as a way to entertain and condense the information we perceive to just positive and entertaining ones. For my fellow New Yorkers, we have a few NYC pages that sure will distract us in a good way during the quarantine.
We sure have a few pages that connect us to our culture; We have @whatisnewyork, @subwaycreatures and then we have the infamous @newyorknico. Nicolas Heller also known as New York Nico is the son of graphic design art director Steven Heller. Throughout the past years, he has made a name for himself by documenting the underground personalities of this beautiful city. Nico is a filmmaker and New Yorks top scout agent when it comes to discovering original characters of New York City…Like Charlie the Wolf.
This blog is not really about New York Nico but rather about the work and devotion he has to help his community. During times of self-isolation, we need to bust a couple of laughs and you’ll surely find it on his page. This week he shared a couple of illustrations on what to do watch and do during self-quarantine. He collaborated with graphic designer Naomi Otsu and they both produced some cute and playful visuals. These visuals go as far as inviting his followers to interact through social media in a talent competition. When I mentioned earlier that he is a talent scout I mean it. If you would like to showcase your talent from home just submit a video to his page or enjoy watching these peculiar personalities showcase their talent. Also, make sure to check Naomi’s great illustrations. FYI- this is a very real New Yorker page!
To finalize I encourage everyone to follow the procedures of self-isolation. It’s not only about you but being conscious of the people that surround us that may not be as healthy as us. I know its a bummer but if we follow these guides we will lower the curve of the COVID-19. I am sure we will come out strong and overcome this situation.
