Illustrator and writer Oliver Jeffers gave the most visually beautiful Ted Talk last week. The Northern Irish artist delivered his An ode to living on Earth virtually on YouTube and Ted’s website. He was planned to be on the main stage at the main conference in Vancouver this year, however, COVID-19 happened and he had to restructure his talk. The result? The most visually beautiful Ted Talk ever. In it, Oliver talks about a different way of seeing the obvious and his thoughts about what it means to be a human living on Earth.

In An Ode to Living on Earth, Oliver talks about his project The Moon, the Earth and Us which was showcased last year at the High Line in New York City. The project was inspired by the first photo of our planet in its entirety—taken 50 years ago during the Apollo 8 mission. When looking at the Earth from a great distance, the astronauts noticed that the man-made borders that separate and divide us disappeared, creating an interconnected planet. Oliver took this idea and created artistic models of the moon and the Earth.

I think I’ve spoiled a lot of the fun enough already, it’s better if you take a look at An Ode to Living on Earth by yourself. Check it out below:
