Nikki Frumkin, a Seattle-based artist and alpinist, creates watercolors inspired by her mountaineering adventures. Much of her work is painted in the mountains, and her paintings magically portray the outdoors. According to Frumkin, her work allows her to experience the landscape over time and truly appreciate her surroundings. Frumkin’s creations transport the viewer to the mountain peaks and serve as a reminder of why these serene landscapes capture our imaginations.

Watercolors and ink are the main materials that Frumkin uses throughout her paintings. As the artist enjoys paintings outdoors, watercolors are portable and dry quickly. Nonetheless, the main feature of watercolors that Frumkin utilizes are their translucency, which allows her to layer the paint and see the colors underneath. In this way, Frumkin captures both light and movement in her paintings.

Update: sold, check back for more tomorrow Last year @mycocat /@nothing.ufo helped me make some screenprints in his studio. It was such a fun and different way of thinking, but I think my favorite part was getting a peek into Jake’s studio life. It’s so satisfying to watch someone work on something they are great at. One of the things we made were these prints of Eldorado Peak in the North Cascades. This week I pulled them out again and added watercolor to try and capture the feeling of alpenglow. This print is available for $80 at drawntohighplaces.com. link in bio. Proceeds from this print are going to @seattlefoundation’s COVID-19 response fund. Thanks to everyone donating what they can and also to everyone supporting their favorite artists and small businesses.
