The Lower East Side in Manhattan has been the centre for counterculture in New York for decades. The punk scene boomed there in the late 1970s making it a very unique place where local punk stars would hang and give the LES it’s iconic style who would identify the place for years to come.

The late 2000s wave of gentrification that’s been killing NY’s counterculture has also claimed most of the punk spirit of the Lower East Side. After all the mecca of punk, CBGB was transformed into a high fashion store, packaging the remains of the punk scene and selling it at $200 buck a t-shirt.

But there’s still a little hidden oasis in the Lower East Side. On 72 Orchard St., The Cast is keeping the local punk rock fashion alive. They’re fantastic designs and leather goods keep the punk spirit alive while adapting it to a contemporary NY. Besides clothing, The Cast has a great collection of counterculture books, photography, design and accessories.

So if you find yourself in the Lower East Side craving some good old punk days, pay a visit to The Cast and say hi to Chuck!
