Lego blocks, Lego movies, Lego games, and now Lego paintings! Lego sure knows how to market their brand and it’s no surprise as to why their popularity increases every year. The world’s largest toy company has no limits and has even reached the artistic world, stamping its characters to a canvas. Have you ever imagined the famous yellow figures taking over a classical painting? Today you will enjoy the work of Italian artist, Stefano Bolcato.
Recently the Archeological Museum of Salerno in Italy invited Bolcato to create a series of work using his beloved legos to not only attract a young audience but also the older generation. Through his Series titled People, Bolcato recreated the classical paintings by replacing the iconic people in the paintings with legos. In his series, you will have fun seeing the lego Frida, Marylin Monroe, and many more famous figures. Bolcato oil paintings explore the art of different time periods, from renaissance to pop culture. It is amazing how this Italian artist was able to mix the classic and contemporary not only through techniques but also through themes.
