I’ve always had a deep appreciation for art that celebrates the beauty of nature, but my intrigue grows even more when artists can create impressive pieces using nature itself as the medium. Kokei Mikuni is an example of such an artist, known for his mind-blowing rock balancing pieces that seem to defy everything that we know about physics and gravity (which frankly, for me, isn’t too much).
Mikuni has dedicated years of his life towards honing and perfecting his rock balancing skills. The art of rock balancing requires extremely heightened and trained levels of concentration, and patience that can be found in very few people. His works are remarkable in that they can only succeed if Mikuni handles his rocks with deathly steady hands, and incredible precision and attention to even the most minute ridges and hollows of his medium. His talent and his work have garnered a lot of attention, and he was even featured in a Sony commercial last year to advertise noise-canceling headphones.
