Alfalfa Studio collaborated with Nickelodeon to create an animation campaign celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
The 2012 set of animated shorts celebrates three Hispanic Americans who reached the top of their fields: Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Sotomayor, astronaut Ellen Ochoa, and novelist Oscar Hijuelos.
Working closely with the Nickelodeon team, Alfalfa Studio conducted the research, designed the characters, created original collage illustrations, produced dozens of branded backgrounds, directed the stories and animation, and supervised all production and post-production aspects, including sound effects, music, and voiceover talent.
Our brilliant group of collaborators included writers, producers, sound designers, animators, voiceover artists and, of course, a terrific client.
The promotional campaign succeeded in capturing the imagination of Nickelodeon’s audience of six– to eleven-year-olds by dynamically communicating the writers’ lyrical scripts via concept, character and story. Along with playful collages, flat fields of orange hues were used throughout to emphasize the network’s branding.
The three spots engaged not only the Hispanic demographics, but attracted a more diverse crowd. The shorts aired on Nickelodeon from September 15 to October 15, 2012.
