While the history of graphic design as a profession and the work of it’s major practitioners has been widely studied, shown and celebrated from any number of European and American designers, virtually nothing exists to showcase the varied and vibrant output of the Australian graphic design industry through the years until now.

Re:collection is an inventory of Australian graphic design produced in a period circa 1960–1980, that has been set up by Dominic Hofstede of Melbourne design firm Hofstede. The project was borne out of frustration at the lack of Australian graphic design reference material available, specifically from the decades mentioned above. Work is featured from great Australian design icons and pioneers such as Les Mason, Brian Sadgrove, Alex Stitt, Gordon Andrews and many more whose work has unfortunately gone pretty much unnoticed on the world stage.

Dominic has sourced some exceptional work from this period, and while it may reflect his own personal and subjective taste, it’s a wonderful archive of some definitely world-class and often over looked design work.
