Who doesn’t love chairs? They look so unique and fun AND you can sit on them. I hate to see a good chair go to waste. Martino Gamper, an artist from England, obviously agrees. He put his own spin on restoring and recycling furniture…
Influenced by his interest in unwanted objects and furniture design, Martino took old, unwanted scrap furniture and made it into new chair designs. He came up with the idea to make 100 chairs in 100 days, using recycled chairs from side streets and friends’ houses. He stressed the value of imperfection and the importance of creating one chair everyday.
Some of his chair designs are so minimalist and weird, I doubt you could even sit on them (they look pretty hazardous to me). The quirky, hodgepodge look about them makes up for it, though. Some of his chairs are more sculptural than functional, but his determination is pretty impressive!
