In a country where PDA is not considered normal, we have moral policing to keep it in check. That’s when the words ‘don’t touch me’ mean a lot. However, this post refers to a different kind of affection—more like vandalism.

It started out as a joke amongst friends who were visiting me in India. Patricia, Chris and Rafa found the ‘Don’t Touch Me’ signs on Mumbai auto-rickshaw meters very amusing. (Them tourists, I tell you!) Their point of view though, did lead us on to something we didn’t expect. I began sharing images of different ‘Don’t Touch Me’ signs to humor them after they left.

The typography in these messages spoke differently with every ride I took, and we invariably ended up documenting them. Some of the signs were in fact ‘touched’, giving many new meanings to the message, while others varied in lettering, colors, and fonts. Have a look.
