Did you ever imagine an ephemeral tower that appears and disappears right before your eyes? Tower; Instant Structure for Schacht XII does that, with water! Created by rAndom International, whose previous piece was the acclaimed Rain Room shown in London and here in New York at MoMA, the close-to-magic building creates a walls with moisture in the air.

Hosted by the Ruhr metropolitan area, the venues of the Ruhrtriennale are the region’s outstanding industrial monuments, transformed each year into spectacular sites for music, fine art, theater, dance, and performance. At the center of all this are contemporary artists seeking a dialog with industrial spaces and between the disciplines. Tower accomplishes its mission masterfully.

By using large amounts of water into the controlled form of a building they manage to animate the architecture of the space adhering faithfully to their mission “to encourage relationships between the converging worlds of animate and inanimate.”

Tower: Instant Structure for Schacht XII was commissioned by Urbane Künste Ruhr for Ruhrtriennale 2013. It’s shown through October 6 from 10am-1pm daily.

If you are wondering how they did it, check the video below.
