Because it’s Friday, and a fun weekend is coming up, I decided to share seven pieces that are meant to brighten your day. The selection comes from La Boca, a Notting Hill, West London based design studio.
La Boca specializes in illustration and image-making. Founded in 2002, the studio has managed to remain independent. This is one of the reasons, I believe, they continue to do work that is colorful, daring, beautiful and incredibly crafted.
Most of their clients tend to be small including record labels and festivals. In the States they are best know for the poster used as a teaser campaign for the American cult film Black Swan. The vintage-inspired series won a Best Movie Poster Design at the Annual Design Awards 2011 and a Silver Award in the Poster Series at the European Design Awards 2011.
The work is heavily illustrative yet very graphic design. Their creative director Scot Bendall says, ‘the designers who have worked at La Boca are graphic designers who illustrate, not the other way around.’ This explains the perfect marriage of design and illustration found in their body of work.
