PartsPartsParts is a digital experiment devised by Miles Payton that asks users to be part of a virtual collage by giving a little bit of themselves. The objective is to create a live animated collage, a sort of exquisite corpse where each collaborator adds to an ever-changing digital composition by following a rule: pose in front of their webcams, anonymously, capture a portion of the body, then drag and drop the animations across the screen.

Over time, the images accumulate into a pulsating collage of human body parts. The result is raw and fascinating; intimate and anonymous.

In its aesthetics and methods, this project reminds me of the Dada art movement of the European avant-garde in the early 20th century. The Dadaist photomontage artist used scissors and glue rather than paintbrushes. Just like some of the Dada creations, the compositions from PartsPartsParts are random, fresh and odd.

So far there isn’t much erotic or pornographic imagery, but that could change. Check out the live project here.
