Kara Walker’s Domino Sugar Factory is one of my favorite places that I have been to. Seeing sculptures made out of sugar was very fascinating, though the smell of the factory was a different story. These sculptures all represented the time of slavery, the artist used sugar to create them because that was what the slaves back then used to pick up. The biggest attraction was the giant sculpture of a nude black woman in a sphinx pose. I believe Kara Walker was trying to show the beauty of women with this since the sphinx’s reproductive organs were exposed to the public. One thing that bothered me was the fact that the smaller sculptures were slowly melting, not only did they cause the smell but its sad to know that someone’s hard work wasn’t going to last forever.

Kara Walker is a African-America artist who tends to focus on violence, race, gender, identity and sexuality. Walker was born in Stockton, California and went to Atlanta College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. One of her best artwork is a room-sized tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes.
