Armed with a graphic design degree from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and a go-getter attitude, Josh knocked at the studio’s door in 2011. His student portfolio was impressive, but even more admirable was his professionalism and positive attitude. Today, I’d like to introduce you to one more member of the Alfalfa Studio family: artist and designer Joshua Lue Chee Kong.

Missing the birthplace of steelpan and calypso, after Alfalfa, Josh moved back to his beloved homeland: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Since then, he’s been gaining professional experience at the city’s most prestigious advertising agencies. In addition, he’s continued developing his personal art. In fact, he recently had a solo exhibition titled Moulded Memories (check out our review here).

Through his fine art and design, Josh constantly explores Trinidad and Tobago’s rich history, culture and folklore. Check out his work below.

To get to know more about Josh’s personality, we asked him to fill in an abbreviated version of the legendary Proust Questionnaire. Let’s find out:

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness? My idea of perfect happiness is having the freedom to do that what you love.

2. What is your greatest fear? My greatest fear would be forgetting everyone I knew and all the amazing experiences I have ever enjoyed thus far, either from old age or sickness.

3. Which living person do you most admire? The person I most admire is my mother as she is my number one supporter.

4. What is your greatest extravagance? My greatest extravagance would be my art collecting, as I try to buy work from artist whose work I appreciate a lot and inspires my own work.

5. What is your current state of mind? Random turmoil of creativity where there is no beginning or end.

6. On what occasion do you lie? I lie when asked if I know about a particular topic or person, just to avoid speaking and listening to what the person has to say.

7. What do you most dislike about your appearance? I honestly have no dislikes about my appearance, as I am confident with myself.

8. What is the quality you most like in a person? Trust.

9. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “Oh really…”

10. Which talent would you most like to have? The talent to accurately produce 100% of the many crazy ideas I have on my mind.

11. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I would want to become more adventurous.

12. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be? I would want to be a cloud, floating over the world.

13. Where would you most like to live? Anywhere with a view of the ocean, I am so use to seeing it coming from the Caribbean.

14. Who are your favorite writers? Khaled Hosseini, Franz Kafka, Derek Walcott.

15. Who is your hero of fiction? Green Lantern.

16. Which historical figure do you most identify with? Salvador Dali.

17. Who are your heroes in real life? Sir Nicholas Winton, Malala Yousafzai and Audrey Layne Jeffers.

18. What are your favorite names? Sia, Isabella, Ryan.

19. What is it that you most dislike? Greed and ignorance.

20. What is your motto? Some things in life you cannot change but you can make the most of it.
