What do you do with a community of more than 400 million people? Sell them stuff! That’s what any marketer would tell you. Currently, for companies looking to drive business, the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs is called Instagram—the 400 million people community.

Curalate, the all-in-one visual marketing platform for Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr & Facebook, recently published some ‘secrets’ about what makes an image engaging. That is, they surfaced the top 1% of images by engagement rate.

What made them so engaging? Was it the type of product? The lighting? The vantage point? Curalate determined that across sectors,

  • 77% of shared images are light in definition, compared to 20% that are dark.
  • 63% of shared images are indoor, compated to 26% outdoor
  • 59% of shared images feature people, compated to 38% without people
  • 1 in every 5 images features a product laydown
  • 1 in every 5 images includes a text overlay

Curalate writes, “By analyzing what made the top 1% of Instagram images so engaging, we were able to identify some really telling trends and draw some really compelling conclusions.” The full infographic can be found here.

Today, we invite you to see the 7 most popular images from our own Instagram account. These images were selected by you, our dear followers, and are taken for the last 100-set. The cast this time is composed of artistic sketches, beautiful architecture shoots, provoking street art, films in progress, and design lectures. Indeed, a rich variety.
