Recently a studio called Unified Field, which define themselves as “creators of experiential and interactive media for next-generation digital branding, media environments and exhibits in public spaces,” was given the challenge to make a digital, environmental infographic to visualize data concerning health issues.

The challenge was not only translating statistics into something meaningful, but also making it graphically efficient, so it could transmit clearly the information while unifying the unique design of the Edward P. Evans Hall building at Yale, and the brand identity of Yale School of Management.

What exactly is all this data? Well, the data includes “global information on comparisons on Internet and social media usage based on population and comparisons of the consumer price index and cost of living indices”.

The media mural is three levels – high floor to ceiling – composed of several screens. The emphasis on the large size of this wall is so people could appreciate the information from any part of the building, and experience the statistics in an actual environment.

We decided to break up the information by color coding the countries and using different shades of those colors to show how that information has been effected through time.”  – Unified Field.

I think the color choice is effective, since it’s conservative, but vivid at the same time. The simplicity of the graphics accompanied by motion makes this wall particularly interesting.

If you like how technology is becoming a tool for enhancing good design keep track on Unified Field, they are using the latest technology to create a more interactive environments.
