The land of the free, the land of opportunities, the American dream. Coming from an immigrant family I have nothing but appreciation for this country that has given me vast opportunities. This is the country of hope, where many immigrants come fleeing from wars, seeking to freely practice their religion, escaping poverty, and foremost to provide a better life for their family; And you know what makes the U.S. great? The fact that we lend a hand and help the millions of people that are in need of a change.

As you know, this past week a travel ban was imposed on seven Muslim countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.) This was such an inhuman act that it does not reflect America’s history and values. Donald Trump signed an unconstitutional law that was mean spirited and invites discrimination across the country. Spontaneous demonstrations erupted throughout and why not? People have the right to protest and have their voices heard all over the world. I always supported the idea to protest and raise your voice in a peaceful way. There is nothing better than doing it through art.

Maybe Trump has intentions in dividing the country, but what he is really doing is uniting us. Through illustrations, many artists were able to share their feeling on this issue. Today I will be showing you some powerful illustrations from all type of artists like for example Jean Julien. Through pencil sketch, watercolor, and digital illustrations, various artists visualized the same message; we will unite as a country and welcome immigrants. Many of the illustrations you are about to see incorporate the statue of liberty. This iconic landmark happens to be the universal symbol of freedom. A symbol that also represents friendship and the United States of America.
