It’s difficult to not feel empowered when viewing Sara Andreasson‘s illustrations. Vibrant color palettes and honest imagery, London-based Swedish illustrator has become a prominent voice in visual media. Within only two years of graduating from HDK,  School of Design and Crafts in 2015, she has worked with clients like Nike, MTV, and The New York Times. Andreasson’s refreshing illustrations are playful odes to gender expression, feminism, and pop-culture. Modern, rebellious and a robust body of work, its hard not to like Sara Andreasson.

Her style is very distinctive and delightful images to view. Andreasson’s sophisticated tactics on visual communication is one of the many reasons why her work is so loved today. When Sara Andreasson works, she explores her references and colors:

“Pictures of men and women tend to be very stereotypical, and therefore I try to use photos of men when I’m drawing women and vice versa. I use layers and masks in Photoshop, which allows me to move around pieces and change the colours as much as I like. Frankly, this part of the process is what I enjoy the most, just working with composition and colour.”

Originally from Kristinehamn, Sweden, she was a girl that had multiple interests. Before she became an illustrator, Andreasson studied engineering, unsure of what her career path would be.

“When I was around 18 years old and started applying for university I added two things on my list; engineer and astronomer. That I ended up studying engineering for three years was more or less a question of chance, since that was what the system picked for me.”

Eventually, she realized her love for illustration, following her dreams.

Her work is awe-inspiring and cool represents of the youth culture in this modern era. I can’t wait to see what other work she will come up with soon. Follow her awesome IG and website to keep up to date with Sara Andreasson.
