When I came across the eccentric animations of Darryl Sharp, I felt delightfully surprised. Some of my favorite music artists like Solange and Kendrick are whimsically mooning over their own album’s melodies. It’s interesting, fun, and an unconventional approach to showing music in motion.

Virginia-raised, Los Angeles-based Darryl Sharp has a knack for animating album artwork. With a passion for contemporary culture and its mythologies, he brings to life today’s best music and reimagines how musicians live their glamorous lifestyles. In the past, he has worked for prominent companies like Funny-or-Die and Interscope Records. Up-to-date and culture savvy, Sharp describes his work:

“With that passion for culture, I want to create my own impact as well in response to the innovative music, art, design and philosophy that inspires and drives me forward.

If I could describe myself in a song lyric: “In the mix with my realities and feelings, living conditions, religion, ignorant wisdom, and artistic vision.” (Lupe Fiasco, Hurts Me Soul)”

I really love Sharp’s work. He often depicts what we are all thinking or vibing about our favorite musicians and celebrities, even though we don’t want to say it out loud. One example of this is when he animated Blue Ivy’s freestyle of her very own father’s Grammy-nominated album, 4:44, below.

You find more about his work on his website here, or you can follow him on Instagram, where most of his recent work resides. Below are some of my favorites he has created.
