If you were to judge today’s Olympians based on their appearance, Ancient Greeks would consider us as wimps. To them, athletic competition in the nude was the ultimate display of raw, brutal athleticism in all of its glory.
These days, an Olympian’s uniform serves a more sophisticated purpose: to display “athleticism, nationality, competition.” Every four years, Olympians from 92 countries debut their winning garb, and their uniforms capture a moment in time excites us, making a sentimental impression of us being proud of our country and generation.
Today we look back at iconic Winter Olympic uniforms from around the globe that represented their time and made an imprint on our memories, influencing us even today.
