When I think of woodblock printing, Japanese Ukiyo-e style art always comes in my mind. The art could be a beautiful scene of nature or a portrait, and they are usually depicted intricately and sophisticatedly.

Today, I would like to share with you the beautiful woodblock prints by Yasu Shibata.

Yasu Shibata is a Japanese woodblock print artist who teaches at Cooper Union, one of the top art schools in the United States. His woodblock print is very interesting – he doesn’t create a woodblock print that we usually think of, but his work is very simple and geometric with a modern feeling. He uses the same techniques as Ukiyo-e artists do, layering simple shapes with vivid colors.
