Most of us know the work of Swiss graphic designer Niklaus Troxter for his famous jazz posters. Since 1960, Troxter has been involved in jazz music by organizing events and designing posters for them. In 1975, he founded the Willisau Jazz Festival, which he directed until 2010. This was the perfect avenue to merge his two passions of graphic design and jazz music.

A—Z, the new space for experimental graphic design in Berlin brings the Swiss master to Germany to showcase his latest more unconventional work. For the last three years, Troxter has been creating images with black and color tape. He finds this as the perfect media to showcase and play with the design elements like rhythm, scale, repetition, texture, form, and shape. Some of the images created at Tape Works are free and abstract while others evoke landscapes or signs. They are musical, like jazz fresh and improvised at once. Like jazz they have sounds and sing stories. A—Z Presents’ mission is to foster dialogue and to redefine the perception of graphic design and this exhibition does just that.

If you are in Berlin, don’t miss Tape Works now through March, 31, 2020 at A—Z Presents located at Torstr 93 10119 Berlin-Mitte.
