Besides the Referee, the only team that wears yellow in the MLS is Columbus Crew. The Ohio based team has well-shaped the MLS by christening the country’s first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer. It would be on the crew’s 20th anniversary that they would see a must needed change in their identity.

The name “Columbus Crew,” derived through a competition in which the submission by a local fan named Luis Orozco won. Although the name was inspired by Christopher Columbus’s voyage crew, the franchise opted to design a logo that reflected a…crew of construction workers. In 2014, the franchise finally opted to change their badge. The new logo continued to use the same (black & gold) color palette through a circular badge influenced by traditional german football crests. Inside the crest are inners rings that reflect the o seen in the Ohio state flag. Centered in the circle are 9 diagonal lines that honor the 9 teams that along with Crew SC inaugurated the MLS. Across the lines is the checkerboard pattern which serves as a connection to the supporter’s culture at Crew SC.
