Today is the big day. Not only is every single person in this country attentive to what will happen today but rather the whole world. Whatever outcome we get will end up having either a negative or positive effect on the world, our lives, and future generations. As of this weekend, 91.6 million Americans have voted so far, however that accounts for 43% of registered voters nationwide. We need everyone to go cast their vote because that’s the only way we bring change to this country. I believe many of us are doing our part in spreading the message of voting. In my field, AIGA has continued with the Get Out the Vote campaign which they release every four years. As always, they have some beautiful designs.
I’m not of getting into politics much but these past four years have opened my eyes to see how much of a downhill our beloved country has gone. Immigrant kids separated from their parents, women fighting for their rights, a constant battle of DACA recipients to preserve their right to live in this country in peace, LGBTQ, immigration, racism, white supremacy, unequal opportunities to people of color, police brutality, COVID deaths, and the list can go on and on. I know some of you will say these things have always happened, however, it is the first time that POTUS and his administration have encouraged these problems to continue without solutions. They have opted to divide the country and side with only their political party rather than the whole American citizens. This is not what this country is supposed to represent.
Leave behind the blue and red mindset and don’t just think about yourself. There are numerous families whose lives are at risk and depend on the outcome of November 3rd. We need change and it comes through voting. If you are reading this post today and have not voted, please go out and vote. At the end of the day, all I could say is to vote for what you think is right and will let you sleep at night.
To end the post see below a few illustrations released by AIGA that encourage voting. The Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote is a campaign in partnership with the League of Women Voters that features the work of AIGA female members. 2020 marks the 100th year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right VOTE in 1920.
