If you keep an eye on Japanese graphic design, I am sure you already know who Yui Takada is. He is the art director and lead designer in Allright Graphics,  a professor at the Tokyo Zokei University, a judge in the Tokyo Type director’s Club. He is considered one of the most attention-worthy graphic designers of Japan in the past few years. A lot of his work is challenging the idea of good design for regular people. And most of the time, his work is even considered as the New Ugly. However, Yui himself doesn’t think his work is the New Ugly. He thinks that his work is Ugly, and ugliness and mistake itself is what he has been looking for.

Yui Takada, A Flower A Day

A Flower A Day is a project that Yui started from Instagram, where every day he would post a 3D model investigation of a flower. The flowers were simply created by random shapes and bright primary colors. All of the artworks have a strong sense of rawness and liveness. This later evolved into an exhibition in Beijing last year. By keeping doing a small visual investigation every day, Yui gave birth to a wonderful and playful project. And I think that is very inspiring for all of us as visual designers.
