Meet The Caretaker, a musical project created by English electronic musician Leyland James Kirby. The Caretaker work explores memory and the gradual deterioration of it. He has received international praise for its interesting compositions and heart-wrenching musical experiments.

His biggest piece of work is Everywhere at the End of Time, a series of albums released from 2016 to 2019. Its 6 albums explore the stages that an individual goes through while suffering from dementia. All the compositions are made of samples of a wide variety of records and wax cylinders. Through the variation on pitch changes, reverberation, looping, crackle and physical degradation, The Caretaker explores the gradual loss of memory and lucidness.

But Everywhere at the End of Time can’t be described with just words. The piece takes you through a heart-wrenching journey. At first, your brain tries to explain it and adapt but after a few minutes, you get involved in an indescribable nostalgia. The piece takes you through moments of tenderness to moments of despair and sadness. It is definitely an overwhelming piece that besides it’s sad and terrifying subject manages to create a beautiful piece of art.
