For 46 years, The Poetry Project at St. Marks Church in the Bowery in the East Village has celebrated the coming of the New Years with a 24 hours Marathon of poetry, music, performances and art! For the past 46 years, they had celebrated it at St. Marks Church, creating a 24-hour long experience of community, art and celebration. This time around due to COVID19 the yearly marathon will be streamed for every one of us to enjoy for FREE! It will feature readings and performances from a global cast of more than 200 poets, writers, artists, musicians, dancers, and theatre-makers – devotees of the avant-garde and demimonde, proud visionaries and iconoclasts working at the edge across language, time, and place.

The Marathon starts at 11pm on December 31st and is projected to end 12am on January 1st 2021. This year’s gathering combines poetry readings with hypnosis, DJ sets and music videos, ritual offerings, celebrations of place and history, cooking segments, short films, archival media, and more.
