2020 is a year that will go down in the books of history as the most chaotic. From the pandemic to the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, I am glad this movement was able to stamp its signature not only in America but across the world. Unfortunately, it took the loss of George Floyd and other People of color for many to see that the black community needs the support of all of us. We should be helping our community with opportunities, giving them a platform and equal opportunities for success. To celebrate Black History Month I would like to feature a few of the many talented black designers and their work. Today I will be sharing the work of Olivia Twist.
London based illustrator has made a name of herself with her peculiar style of art. Such aesthetic has led to collaboration with companies such as ASOS and The Guardian among others. Her style of art is composed of a woodcut aesthetic with rich based lines. Her work uses thick black marking accompanied by a singular vibrant color. Olivias illustrations capture the everyday familiar scenes that revolve around her. She captures moments that could be just any ordinary scene for other people however they transmit more than that. They have a feeling of culture and family. Her design style is awesome and I would recommend you to check out more of her work through her website.
I would recommend all these corporate design firms to not just post things rather actually support people of color. There are a lot of talented young black designers waiting for an opportunity and no one better than you to give them this chance.
Happy Black History Month!
