An art style I’m really fond of is naive illustration especially when the art comes out of kids. Naive artwork is playful colorful full of textures and most importantly is sparks curiosity. There something about it that gravitates you to analyze it. Today to celebrate Black history month I would like to share the illustrations of Coral Springs, Florida K-12 students whose artwork celebrated Martin Luther king.

A great initiative that many schools across the country have been doing virtually is art contests honoring African American icons. One that stood out was celebrated in Coral Spring Florida titled A Brave New Dream. Hoster by The City of Coral Springs MLK Committee, this contest is the first-ever by them done virtually. With the goal of continuing to educate kids and the community about the life and legacy of Dr. King, this contest also showcases the local talent. Many kids from kindergarten to 12th grade enter the contest which broke down into four divisions. The Prize would be granted to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place with an opportunity to have their illustrations through social media as well as the Coral Springs Museum of Art website. See below a few of the great illustrations submitted by these students. If you would like to see all the artwork click here. Enjoy
