Outside of the top five of Argentina stands a team that fights to be among the most successful clubs of Argentina. In 1905 Estudiantes La Plata was founded at a shoe store named New York by a group of English students. The team came into existence after the group of frustrated Gimnasia Y Esgrima La Plata fans decided to break out and form their own team due to their club allowing construction of a new university in their grounds and showing a lack of interest in maintaining their club.

The name of the club derived from this group similar to the colors seen in the jersey and badge. To honor the alumni team of their English high school they decided to adopt the red and white colors. Throughout the years since their existence, they have always highlighted the championships won in their emblem. From stars representing the teams, they have beaten to a single star with the number 11, and an illustration of an actual trophy won, the logo always highlighted their success. In 2011, Adidas adjusted their logo that resembles the one used in its initial days. A red badge with three vertical lines also happens to be the one used in the logo of the German sporting brand. Lastly, if you’re curious to know where the nickname pincharatas derived from; the story has it that one of the earliest members would often be found chasing rats in La Plata market.
