The International Women’s Strike or International Feminist Strike 8-M is a movement that takes place on March 8 and supports women’s rights across the world. The movement calls for the end of violence against women, gender inequality and different forms of oppression against women.

Despite the pandemic, thousands of Mexican women took the streets of the country to fight against violence and inequality. In preparation for the March 8th protests, the federal government, lead by president Lopez Obrador installed a wall of barricades surrounding the government’s palace. Feminists took advantage of this and took over the government barricades. They painted in white hundreds of names of the victims of femicide in Mexico. At night they projected protest messages on the facade of the governments’ palace, creating a full-on protest piece that reflects the reality of a country whose government refuses to acknowledge the crisis of violence against women that has scarred the roots of its society.
