Japanese music producer Eve just released a new song called YORUWA HONOKA, translating in English to “Faint at Night.” Like his other works, the catchy beat and powerful lyrics are accompanied by a gorgeous, animated music video.

The entire video was animated and created by the artist Zemyata, on their iPad no less! Also known for animatics and animation memes, it’s amazing that Zemyata and Eve collaborated on this project. The animation feels so fluid and lively, and one of my favorite scenes is the beginning of the first chorus where the main character’s hair is blowing with the clothes on the clothesline.

Featuring a striking orange color palette, there is strong imagery of electronic fans, pinwheels, and washing machines, all things that spin, and the setting itself appears to be a laundromat. One can interpret symbolism like cleaning or being cleaned, dirty laundry, and being stuck in a cycle or a loop. The music video follows our main character as he’s greeted by various other demon-like creatures. At first, he appears to be annoyed by these things; other times, putting up with and coexisting with them; and finally, breaking away from or embracing them (depending on how you interpret it).

Although Eve is a Japanese musician, he has a large and ever-growing western fanbase. It’s highly considerate of him to include English subtitles on his video, especially in-depth explanations as opposed to just literal translations. It goes neither unnoticed nor unappreciated!

Check out the song and music video here—-you might be playing it on loop for a while! All of Eve’s and Zemyata’s social accounts are listed below as well.
